RE: how many of you have generators?
I guess it depends on the kind of camping your doing....if your going to need a hair dryer, TV, AC, microwave or other power consuming toys then you will need a generator. We don't camp with any of this and manage with 80 watts of solar. I wish I had 390 watts of solar, Everymilesamemory!
RE: how many of you have generators?
The only time I use my old 800w Suzuki genset is to run the blender for crushed ice rum drinks! I think they are a pain and irritating to camp next to! Too many peaple fire them up in thier camp site and then leave with thier genset running. Yes, thier are quite models out there but there are also lots of noisy ones.
The only time we plug in while camping is during the late winter and early spring (-15C is my cut-off) to run the furance and tank heater. The rest of the time we dry camp and our solar panel provide endless power. They are always on and always quite; no maintenance. I know generators are cheap but I cannot stand the noise and don't like to impose/irritate my neighbors.
RE: Your thoughts on installing a hitch on the back of your TT?
Try a boat loader instead; I'm planning on picking up a "heavy duty loader". Loads boats automatically up to 600lbs in weight & 16ft long. Comes with 3000lb winch. Way safer! Through the trailer in the box if it's short enough. My trailer (with a hinged tongue) will fit in a long box.
